Why We're Building PlayIQ

Changing the Way Coaches Prepare—For Good

Howdy Reader ,

First and foremost, thank you for being apart of the journey in creating PlayIQ. It means a lot that you took the time to look at our website, fill out you information, and join the newsletter. We don’t take any of that lightly. After all, we are creating PlayIQ for you-Coaches.

If we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, my name is John Jennings. I am a 5 year Marine Corps infantry veteran, and I transitioned to playing college football. I graduated from West Texas A&M with my degree in business. Playing football as the “Older Guy” on a college football team, helped me see different aspects of football. Not just the game, but the overall day to day operations of a football program. I’m not sure if its my military background and leading Marines, or just how my brain operates, but as I was apart of the football program I began seeing subtle ways to improve processes that coaches go through throughout the season.

Being the “Older Guy” did come with some advantages. One of them being I got to peak behind the curtain as I related with a lot of the coaches because we were closer to the same age. One thing that I most people don’t realize about a football team, is how much goes on behind the scenes. There’s recruiting, traveling, pre-season scouting, week-to-week scouting, scouting reports, coaches meetings, team meetings, position meetings, meetings about meetings, conversations with doners, boosters and athletic directors, the marketing team, game day rehearsals, walk throughs, run throughs… The list goes on. This is just what happens Sunday through Friday, 365 days a year.

As the seasons went by and I got to witness and experience what coaches go through, it brings a whole different level of respect to the craft. From head coaches and coordinators, all the way down to grad-assistants and supporting staff. I got asked several times by players, coaches, friends and family: “Are you going to be a coach?” My response is always: “Though I COULD be a coach, I am not sure I WANT to be a college football coach.” The men that coach college football choose the life because they WANT it, even though its hard. But I did start to think to myself: “There HAS to be a way to make the process better.”

In my last season in 2024, I began to learn about what AI can do, and it clicked. We can apply the same AI logic businesses use to improve logistics and apply it to football. The problem? Well… I don’t know how to code, and it wasn’t for the lack of trying. If you read this far you remember my brief resume at the top. No where in there does it scream I know anything about techy stuff. (The truth is I do know more than the average, but coaches deserve the BEST)

So I did what any other Millennial would do, and I took to Reddit. Where I found Wesly. Wesly was working on a project where he could track football players draw them out all using AI. Back then it was called White80 Football, which is how most of you found it in the first place. So I reached out to him, we had a few meetings about my vision. HE loved my vision, we both came to terms and BAM- PlayIQ was born.

We haven’t released a demo video in a while. The main reason is, its just the two of us working on this project while working full time with families, and building this thing out to meet our expectations takes time. But I promise you, when we fully launch, we are going to be ALL-IN. Because you coaches deserve it.

We want to do more than just release some cool AI software. We want to change the way coaches operate. The way football programs prepare. We are going to have so many tools to not just watch film, but create playbooks, organize, and scout. We are going to give something back to coaches you could never buy back till now: Time.

One thing hasn’t changed, will not change, and will never change. Winning high level football games is HARD. What we are looking to do, is lower man hours on day to day operations during the season to let coaches do what they love to do- COACH. Don’t be left behind and leave things up to chance. Be excellent in your craft.

Below I am going to leave my personal contact info. Feel free to reach out, I would love to hear from some of y’all, so we can learn how we can make a better product for you. And don’t forget to follow our Twitter page to see our demo videos. More coming soon.
